DNS (see the glossary entry for DNS) uses records to point different groups of characters to different websites. For example, in order that our website appears when you type www.illuminateict.org.uk into your web browser, we've had to create a record in the DNS settings for our domain - illuminateict.org.uk - that points www to our webserver.
